COMMUNICATION & LEADERSHIP
Professional success depends on EFFECTIVE communication and leadership.
Whether you’re giving presentations, effectively developing and presenting
new ideas or offering constructive feedback. Toastmasters can help you to
lose the fear of public speaking and learn skills that will help you be more
SUCCESSFUL in whatever career or personal path you’ve chosen.
You’ll be a BETTER listener, easily lead teams and conduct meetings, and
comfortably give and receive constructive evaluation. If you already have
some of these skills, Toastmasters will help you to ENHANCE them.
Making the Right Choice
Gourmet Toastmasters is the right choice for improving your speaking skills.
We offer helpful suggestions for improving your communication style in a
friendly, relaxed environment. About 15 - 20 people attend our monthly
meetings. Our club members have diverse careers and backgrounds ranging from
engineering, architectural design to public relations, banking and training.
Everyone Talks
At a Gourmet meeting everyone talks. You’ll build ‘quick-thinking’ skills by
presenting a one-to-two minute impromptu speech during Table Topics. At a
later meeting you may be the one conducting the Table Topics session! In no
time you’ll introduce speakers, give prepared speeches, conduct the meeting
and perform many other roles as your skills develop.
Continuous improvement
You’ll improve just by speaking regularly. But the key to the Toastmasters
learn-bydoing programme is constructive evaluation. Every time you give a
prepared speech, another member will evaluate your presentation by pointing
out your strengths and offering suggestions for improvement. At first you’ll
be recognised for your effort; later you’ll be recognised for your skills.
Leadership in action
You can’t be a leader in a day; it takes practice. At Gourmet we build
leadership skills by organising and conducting meetings and motivating others
to help. You can also build leadership skills by working on a project related
to your personal or professional life or by serving as a leader in
Toastmasters.
